Two of Ben Affleck’s best movies of the 2010s have landed on a major streaming chart. Ben Affleck is a major movie star whose works have cumulatively grossed more than $6 billion worldwide. Although he began his career as a child actor and starred in well-known early 1990s projects including Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused, his breakout role came when he and Matt Damon co-wrote and co-starred in the 1997 Gus Van Sant movie Good Will Hunting, which earned them a joint Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
Other Ben Affleck and Matt Damon collaborations have hit screens since their original success, including The Last Duel, Dogma, and Air. However, Affleck has also become well-known outside of that partnership, both as an actor and director. One of his most prominent onscreen roles has been playing Batman in DC Extended Universe movies including Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. He also won his second Oscar for producing the 2012 Best Picture winner Argo, which he also directed and starred in. That movie was just one of his many critically and commercially successful 2010s offerings.

The Town and Gone Girl are finding new success on streaming after becoming hits in the 2010s. 2010’s The Town, which Affleck co-wrote and directed, is based on Chuck Hogan’s 2004 crime novel Prince of Thieves and stars Affleck, Rebecca Hall, and Jeremy Renner. 2014’s Gone Girl, which was directed by David Fincher, is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Gillian Flynn and follows Nick Dunne (Affleck), who is put in the public spotlight after the disappearance of his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike). Below, see a breakdown of the critical and commercial success of both movies:
Title Budget Box Office Rotten Tomatoes Score Oscar Performance The Town (2010) $37 million $154 million 92% (Certified Fresh) 1 nomination Gone Girl (2014) $61 million $370.9 million 88% (Certified Fresh) 1 nomination
At the time of writing, both movies are on Hulu’s chart of the Top 15 most-watched movies of the day. Gone Girl has landed at No. 11 while The Town is even higher, at No. 3. The only movies above the Oscar-nominated 2010 title on the chart are current hits, namely the buzzy Amy Adams horror-comedy Nightbitch at No. 2 and the thriller Amber Alert, which stars Hayden Panettiere and Tyler James Williams, at No. 1.

The Town And Gone Girl Continue To Succeed

The fact that both Ben Affleck movies are charting at the same time seems to speak to their continued ability to connect with audiences. Their streaming success may be boosted somewhat by contemporary tabloid reports covering Affleck’s ongoing divorce from Jennifer Lopez, who he married in 2022 after the rekindling of their high-profile relationship that originally ended in the early 2000s. However, the original success of the pair of movies speaks for itself, and it seems that they have not lost that initial power.
