The Platform 2 is the sequel film to the 2019 film The Platform, which first introduced audiences to a world that has constructed a prison wherein the inmates are fed via a descending platform that starts on the top level and proceeds to the bottom. The movie picks up with another story about this prison, expanding the first film’s lore. The Platform 2’s cast includes Milena Smit, Hovik Keuchkerian, Natalia Tena, Oscar Jaenada, Ivan Massague and is directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia
Now, The Platform 2 has found success on Netflix’s streaming chart. The film was no. 1 on the non-English language chart for the week of September 30 to October 6, amassing 19.4 million views. The Platform 2 also made it onto the global chart for non-English language films, making it to no. 5. Looking at the English-language chart, The Platform 2 was by far the most-viewed film overall. The chart-topper for English-language films was Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, which had just 7.1 million views. Even The Platform 2 would have ranked no. 7 on the English-language charts.

The Platform Movies Have An Interesting World

The Platform movies provide fascinating ways to visualize the abuse of resources. There are countless other dystopian films, such as The Hunger Games franchise, that tackle issues of overconsumption and what happens when abundance is offered to a select few. The Platform, however, directly visualizes this concept through The Pit, showing what happens at the top and the dire consequences of getting the dregs after upper (in this case literally) society has grossly overused its resources.
Related The Loyalists & Barbarians: The Platform 2’s Factions Explained The Platform 2 reveals that the prisoners in its central system are divided into two groups, loyalists & barbarians, who follow opposing philosophies.
Do not let The Platform 2’s mixed reviews scare you. While critics have questioned the necessity of this sequel, some, including Tom Ellen of Empire Magazine, have still noted the thriller’s “compelling high concept.” This concept makes The Platform 2 worth watching, especially for those who have seen the first The Platform and are looking for something that continues the universe.
Our Take On The Platform 2
The Platform Movies Are Fascinating

I was as surprised as anyone to learn they were making a sequel to The Platform. At the same time, I’m thrilled to see a movie like this succeed. In a time when movies and TV are flooded with dystopian interpretations such as The Hunger Games, The Last of Us, and Fallout, The Platform 2 offers a fresh perspective that is not as outlandish as some of these other stories. It is more isolated than the typical dystopia by being set in The Pit, and this uniqueness makes it interesting.
