Prime Video subscribers have an exciting selection of movies to watch this weekend, with a couple of romantic choices, though with different tones, and an energetic detective story with major Hollywood stars. On last weekend’s Prime Video movie recommendations, I discussed three releases: The Wrecking Crew, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and The Legend of Tarzan.
This time around, I have put some thought into the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday, and there are a couple of exciting romantic movies that emerged as perfect films to watch on Prime Video this weekend. Joining them is the start of a detective franchise with one of fiction’s biggest characters. One of the three choices is a new Prime Video Original movie.
3 La La Land (2016)
Starting the list is La La Land. To this day, I maintain that the musical deserved to win that divisive Academy Award for Best Picture. Even without that nice accolade, La La Land continues to be one of the best movies of all time, 10 years later. It is brilliantly led by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, both of whom ooze charisma and chemistry throughout.
With Valentine’s Day approaching, La La Land is a good watch the weekend before the holiday. It is a romantic and fun movie for the most part. Though there is a gut punch to be had towards the end, it comes with well-earned emotional resonance. La La Land has intricate musical numbers and a story about fighting for your dreams and the ones who will help you there.
2 Relationship Goals (2026)
The other romantic movie on the list is Prime Video’s newest Original. Released on the streaming service on February 4, Relationship Goals is already the most-watched movie on Prime Video in the United States and the 4th on the streamer’s worldwide chart. The rom-com is a hit, and it’s worth checking out why.
Relationship Goals follows Leah Caldwell (Kelly Rowland), a TV producer, as she gets ready to make history as the first woman in charge of New York’s biggest morning show. However, her ex, Jarrett Roy (Clifford “Method Man” Smith), tries to get that same position now that he has changed after the success of his book, “Relationship Goals.” The story presents a push-and-pull between the characters as Leah and Jarrett both clash and come closer again.
1 Sherlock Holmes (2009)
The final entry on the list is the only non-romance this time around. After Prime Video released the trailer for Young Sherlock, its upcoming Sherlock Holmes prequel series about the detective solving his first case, which is directed by Guy Ritchie, there was no better choice for the weekend. 2009’s Sherlock Holmes is a treat for Prime Video subscribers this weekend.
The movie, which was also directed by Ritchie, is the first to star Marvel’s Robert Downey Jr. as the eccentric Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law as the loyal Dr. Watson. The movie is fun, fast-paced, smart, and action-packed. Sherlock Holmes follows the crime-solving duo as they take on a string of murders in London, though the answer only brings more questions. It is a Prime Video must-watch.
