Hugh Jackman has played Wolverine for over two decades, yet many of Logan’s iconic comic-book looks have yet to appear in live-action. Few comic book characters are as closely tied to a single actor as Hugh Jackman, who has played multiple versions of the same character and continues to play the clawed mutant deep into the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.
Curiously, Hugh Jackman only started to wear Wolverine’s comic book costumes twenty four years after he first put on the claws. In 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine finally took several Logan looks to the big screen, including comic-accurate Old Man Logan, the white Patch tuxedo, and the Age of Apocalypse spandex suit. When Jackman inevitably returns, the MCU could continue this trend with multiple other costumes.
7 Wolverine’s Gray & Black X-Force Suit
Wolverine’s X-Force Costume Is Perfect For Doomsday & Secret Wars
Wolverine’s black-and-gray X-Force costume reflects a far colder and more lethal phase of the mutant hero. Introduced during Marvel’s late-2000s X-Force relaunch, the dark costume symbolizes Wolverine fully embracing covert ops. This version of Logan works in the shadows alongside X-23, Archangel, and Domino, often doing the things the X-Men refuse to acknowledge have to be done.
Deadpool 2 planted the seeds for a live-action adaptation of the X-Force costumes with Wade Wilson’s dust-covered costume. Then, Deadpool & Wolverine perfectly set the stage for the actual uniforms. By the time Wade and Logan return, Deadpool may have convinced Wolverine to revive his X-Force team, complete with matching outfits. Deadpool, Wolverine, X-23, Gambit, Domino, and Colossus could appear in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars sporting the gray-and-black X-Force uniforms from Marvel Comics.
6 Wolverine’s First-Ever Comic Costume
Logan’s First Suit Deserves To Be Paid Homage
Introduced in The Incredible Hulk #180-181, Wolverine’s very first costume features exaggerated whiskers on the cowl and notably shorter, rounder mask wings. Wolverine’s original design leans heavily into Logan’s feral aesthetic. While Wolverine’s first costume was quickly refined into sleeker variations once Wolverine joined the X-Men, the original look remains a crucial piece of Marvel history and the blueprint for one of the publisher’s most iconic characters.
The MCU has shown a strong willingness to visually honor classic comic designs. Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Vision, Captain America, Thor, and Hawkeye have all received brief yet faithful costume homages. With Deadpool & Wolverine finally delivering Logan’s iconic yellow-and-blue suit on screen after years of waiting, the door is now open for a quick nod to Wolverine’s very first costume, at least as an Easter egg or cameo.
5 Ultimate Wolverine’s Black & Yellow X-Men Uniform
Wolverine’s Ultimate Costume Would Be A Nod To His Movie Origins
Ultimate Wolverine’s black-and-yellow X-Men was introduced in Marvel’s original Ultimate Universe as a streamlined reinterpretation of Logan’s classic look. Designed to feel more tactical, it retains the iconic yellow accents while replacing the bright spandex aesthetic with a darker, sleeker design. Wolverine wears this suit extensively throughout Ultimate X-Men, particularly during the line’s early years, where the Ultimate Universe aimed to modernize Marvel for a new generation. The costume became closely associated with a more volatile Logan shaped by a harsher worldview.
Wolverine’s Ultimate suit represents a natural middle ground between Hugh Jackman’s all-black leather outfit from Fox’s first X-Men movies and Wolverine’s traditional yellow costume. With Avengers: Doomsday bringing back the original X-Men movie cast, Jackman’s Wolverine could honor his cinematic roots by once again wearing a darker, more subdued design. Alternatively, the MCU could establish that these X-Men’s Wolverine wears, or once wore, a black-and-yellow uniform similar to his Ultimate Marvel counterpart. Where this Wolverine is during Avengers: Doomsday remains unclear.
4 The X-Men’s Blue & Gold Costume
Logan’s Bright Yellow-And-Blue X-Men Uniform Would Bring His Movie History Full-Circle
Wolverine’s bright yellow-and-blue X-Men uniform fully commits to his superhero responsibilities, visually placing Wolverine alongside the rest of the X-Men as part of Charles Xavier team after its disbandment. Designed by Moira MacTaggert, the X-Men’s Gold & Blue costumes are loud and unapologetically comic-booky. Mutants used to their own distinct looks, like Psylocke and Jubilee, wear the same suit to display their renewed sense of union.
The Gold & Blue uniform would bring Wolverine’s movie journey completely full-circle. Hugh Jackman’s Logan joined the X-Men in the original trilogy wearing his team’s black leather uniform. Now, that same idea could be revisited in a radically different way, with Wolverine once again wearing the same costume as the X-Men, but this time in bright, colorful yellow and blue. This would pay off the famous line from X-Men, “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?”, by finally delivering exactly that.
3 Wolverine’s Second Ultimate Universe Costume
Wolverine’s Latest Costume Redesign May Be Reserved For The MCU’s Next Saga
On Earth-6160, Wolverine is transformed into a Winter Soldier; fully masked, completely mute, and stripped of his free will. Wolverine’s Ultimate Winter Soldier suit is a striking red-and-black variation on his classic design. Given that he moves with inhuman speed and stealth, Marvel’s new Ultimate Wolverine feels like a red blur slashing through enemies before they realize what happened.
Despite being one of the most recent Wolverine redesigns, Earth-6160’s Ultimate Wolverine is distinct enough to warrant a live-action adaptation. That said, this is likely not a costume Hugh Jackman will ever wear. Marvel Studios will almost certainly reserve such a recent reinterpretation for when a new actor takes over the role.
2 Wolverine’s Fang Suit
Logan’s Most Eccentric Costume Deserves A Cameo
Wolverine’s Fang suit is born from the period when Logan is impersonated by his Shi’ar counterpart, Fang. During this stretch, Wolverine appears far more savage and unrestrained, and his costume reflects it, with sharper teeth and a rougher approach to combat. While the suit itself isn’t worn extensively by the real Wolverine, it has become a cult-favorite deep cut.
In live-action, Wolverine’s Fang suit is almost certainly too niche for a full-movie appearance, but it’s perfectly suited for a brief cameo. Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars could feature a multiversal Wolverine wearing the Fang design for a few seconds, similarly to all the Logan variants shown in Deadpool & Wolverine. Alternatively, the costume could be repurposed for a new actor’s Wolverine as part of a subplot, perhaps as an experimental suit.
1 X-Men Evolution’s Tan Wolverine Suit
Wolverine’s Tan Suit Needs More Screentime
X-Men: Evolution’s tan Wolverine suit stands out thanks to its subtly flipped color palette and more pronounced mask flaps. The design fit X-Men: Evolution’s modernized take on the franchise, with a more grizzled mentor-figure Wolverine. It feels both tactical and wild, which would translate well to the MCU’s heightened sense of comic book faithfulness.
Hugh Jackman’s tan costume cameo resonated strongly in Deadpool & Wolverine despite its limited screentime. Wolverine’s X-Men: Evolution costume could fill that void soon. What’s more, concept art for the Deadpool & Wolverine reveals multiple alternate costumes, including the Evolution, Fang, 2000s Ultimate, and Incredible Hulk costumes. The fact that all of these designs were considered for multiversal cameos suggests that Marvel is well aware of their live-action potential.
