In 2015, the Rocky saga experienced a new lease of life with the release of Creed: The Legacy of Rocky Balboain which Sylvester Stallone agrees to train the young Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan), the son of the famous boxing mushroom Apollo Creed, killed during a match by the infamous Russian champion Ivan Drago in Rocky IV. Consumed by the loss of a father he never knew, Adonis decides to enter the ring in turn, and ends up with a solid chance of winning the title of world champion. Rocky’s new little protege hits hard and allows the spin-off film of the franchise to achieve worldwide success, confirmed in 2018 with the release of Creed II. Totaling nearly $290 million in box office revenue, these first two installments will leave the Netflix platform on July 8. Might as well warn you: it hits hard!

Creed I and II: the new adventure of the son of Apollo Creed
In 2016, almost ten years after the last film in the Rocky saga, director Ryan Coogler (Black Panther) breathed new life into the legendary boxer with Creed, presented as a modern spin-off of the prolific universe proposed by Sylvester Stallone at the end of the 70s. The challenge was daring and the expectations of fans of the cult saga lived up to the event. This first installment begins 30 years after the death of Apollo Creed (played by Carl Weathers), when his worthy heir knocks on the door of Rocky’s restaurant to ask him to train him. A mission that he will eventually accept, working for the birth of a future champion in the “heavyweight” category.
If the agreement is not always in good shape between these two hotheads, Rocky and Adonis manage to forge very strong links, before finding themselves one last time in a second part, Creed II, for an anthology fight. This time, Adonis intends to get revenge by challenging a certain Viktor, who is none other than the son of Ivan Drago, his father’s assassin. Blinded by his thirst for revenge, the young champion rushes headlong and pays a high price. It was then that his mentor agreed to put his little protege, now injured and demoralized, back in the ring, by the sweat of his brow. Will he finally be able to win the fight of his life?

The third part of the franchise will it ever be available on Netflix?
It will probably not have escaped fans of the Rocky license that a third film was released in theaters in March 2023, but this time, without the participation of Sylvester Stallone! Directed by Michael B. Jordan, Creed III is a huge success that brings in more than 173 million dollars in box office receipts (for a budget of 35 million). The 76-year-old actor then explained that he was no longer connected with the artistic direction of Creed III. “He took a completely different direction than I would have taken. It’s a different philosophy. I wish them luck, but I’m much more of a sentimentalist.”explained Sylvester Stallone to The Hollywood Reporter.
If the actor’s fans may have had a hard time digesting the news, the fact remains that the sports drama offered by Michael B. Jordan in Creed III was able to attract a large audience. If the first two parts of the saga leave Netflix soon, no doubt we can hope that the last film can one day join the catalog of the American firm. Nothing has been announced yet, but you can still make the request via the form provided for this purpose.
