The bombshell report hints at a potential Avengers movie focused on the original six members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe team.
An Avengers movie centered on the original six members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe team is under consideration. There are currently two Avengers movies set to release in Phase 6, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Those films were meant to feature a new version of the famous team, as after four Avengers movies, half of the original team members left the MCU. However, the state of the new Avengers seems to be in flux.
A bombshell report from Variety has revealed that Marvel could be going back to the original six Avengers. According to the report, talks about a new movie with the original Avengers cast have happened, with the MCU’s recent troubles leading to that possibility. The new Avengers film would reunite Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye. Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson’s characters would be resurrected for the movie.

Will A New Avengers Movie With All 6 Original Actors Actually Happen?

With Phase 4 being heavily criticized, it is understandable that Marvel would look back at what worked for the MCU, deciding to see the original Avengers return. The report goes on to explain that while Marvel is considering bringing back the original Avengers actors for a new movie, the studio has yet to commit to the idea. One of the factors that would be against the movie becoming a reality is how much it would take to get the original Avengers cast back.
The report lists Downey’s pay for Iron Man 3 as “around $25 million.” As was the rule for past MCU movies, actors’ salaries tend to increase with each film, which could make the cost of the original cast alone surpass the $200 million mark for the possible new Avengers movie. That is a hefty price to pay, as the added costs of marketing, VFX, reshoots, and more would make the possible return of the original Avengers one of the most expensive movies ever.
Despite what could be a hefty budget, a movie with the original Avengers would almost certainly turn a profit for Marvel, as the nearly $3 billion Avengers: Endgame can attest. Both Marvel fans and critics alike have criticized the post-Endgame MCU for feeling aimless and having a drop in quality. While the possible film would go against the new Avengers team that was being set up, the movie could turn the MCU around, as beloved characters return to get the audience that dropped the MCU back. It stands to be seen if the original Avengers will get another movie, but if they do, the MCU will be better for it.
