CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office says the driver of a moped died Tuesday morning in a crash at a Hollywood intersection.
The crash happened just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 162 and Salters Hill Road, Charleston County Sheriff’s spokesperson Alexis Douglas said.
Investigators say a vehicle and a moped were traveling west on Highway 162 and as both approached Salters Hill Road, the moped driver started to turn left as the vehicle began passing him. The two collided, throwing the moped off the roadway, Douglas said.
First responded attempted life-saving measures but EMS said the moped driver died at the scene.
The Charleston County Coroner has not yet released the name of the victim.
The sheriff’s traffic and forensic sciences units responded to the scene and Douglas said the crash remained under investigation.
There was no word on whether charges would be filed.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 843-202-1700.
