Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Power Rangers Prime #1! The original theme of the Power Rangers was one of unquestionable good, especially when it came to protecting the established order on Earth. The Power Rangers faced countless villains who wanted to become evil dictators, and they stopped them every time, effectively maintaining the status quo of global politics. Meanwhile, the Power Rangers never challenged the establishment, as they only battled enemies that threatened it. But now, the Power Rangers are utterly rejecting the original show’s top theme, turning them into rebellious agents of chaos.
In Power Rangers Prime #1 by Melissa Flores and Michael Yg, fans are introduced to a totally unfamiliar Power Rangers continuity, one where the Power Rangers themselves have been defeated. The Eltarian Empire (once a peaceful alien race) has conquered the Earth, adding the entire planet to their ever-expanding galactic empire. When they took over, the Eltarians killed every Power Ranger, along with any successor to their power. Only a few people on the planet still carry morphers, and their connection to the Morphin Grid is tenuous at best.

As it stands, the Power Rangers are no more, with only one character that’s been introduced to hold a fraction of the Rangers’ power. That means the Power Rangers will have to climb their way out of extinction as this series progresses – and that’ll be the easy part. Once the Power Rangers return, they will be fugitives, challenging the ‘new world order’ of the Eltarian Empire. The Eltarians run the planet, and anyone who rejects their reign is an enemy, and the Power Rangers are collectively public enemy number one.
The Power Rangers are Fighting Against the Established Order, Not on Behalf of It
The Eltarian Empire is the ‘New Normal’ in Global Politics, & the Power Rangers are Fighting to Destroy It
While the Power Rangers were never officially political agents working on behalf of any particular agenda, the very fact that they protected the world’s status quo means they passively played that role. Granted, any change to the status quo would have been evil dictatorships or complete planetary annihilation, but the fact remains that the Power Rangers fought to ensure there’d be no political change around the world in any way, shape, or form.
In Power Rangers Prime, however, the only thing the Power Rangers are trying to do is disrupt the status quo. When the Eltarian Empire moved in, they established a new education system, they introduced advanced technology that the Earth has since become reliant on, and – most importantly – they became the unquestioned and unchallenged rulers of the whole planet. To the younger generation, the Eltarians have always been in power, and any alternative would go against everything they’ve ever known. Therefore, the Power Rangers are firmly rebellious revolutionaries fighting the system, something they’ve never been before.
The Power Rangers Have Changed from Agents of Order, to Ones of Chaos
Could the Power Rangers Align with a Famous Villain to Beat the Eltarians?

The Power Rangers were once agents of order, but now that ‘order’ is synonymous with the Eltarians, they have become agents of chaos. Interestingly, another famous ‘agent of chaos’ crash-landed on Earth at the end of Power Rangers Prime #1: Rita Repulsa. She and her dark magic threatened the Earth countless times in the original Power Rangers continuity, and the Rangers were always quick to stop her. However, it’s all-too possible that the Rangers will now align with Rita Repulsa, fully accepting their role as agents of chaos to defeat the Eltarians.
Related Power Rangers Just Tied Itself to a Hit ’90s Show Thanks to a Surprising Crossover VR Troopers has always been a ‘sister series’ to Power Rangers, but now their lore is connecting, making the VR Troopers the Power Rangers’ enemies.
But, whether they actually partner with Rita Repulsa or not, the Power Rangers are still ‘agents of chaos’, as their stance against the established order puts them firmly in that category. The Power Rangers have never been on this side of the law before, but now, they’re ready to reject the original show’s top theme, and become the anti-establishment heroes they need to be to defeat this all-new threat.
