SMARTY PANTS Starting off with a win might just be what we need to get through the week, so if you’re all-knowledgeable about entertainment and food, Dani’s Queer Bar may be the place to savor some sweet victory. Every Monday night, the lesbian bar hosts three rounds of trivia hosted by local drag artist Amanda Playwith . The top competitors of each round will play each other for the chance to win special prizes. March 31, 7-9 p.m. 909 Boylston St. danisqueerbar.com
With another month gone and another flip of the calendar, you may be looking back at all your monthly expenses and cringing at the onslaught of digits. Perhaps it’s time to approach filling the calendar with budget-friendly activities. Thankfully, there’s plenty of free events to welcome the month of April — from class film nights to music-filled afternoons. We’ve got you and your wallet covered for spending your week on a budget.
TAKE THE CANNOLI Everyone has seen this one, and if you haven’t, you’ve likely been berated by a shocked, almost offended reaction of: “You haven’t seen ‘The Godfather’?” To avoid the glare of film geeks forevermore, perhaps stop by the BPL’s South Boston location for a free screening of the 1972 film by Francis Ford Coppola and scratch “The Godfather” off your watchlist for free. April 1, 1 p.m. 646 East Broadway. bpl.bibliocommons.com

NIGHTTIME TUNES Looking for some midweek downtime? The rich, freewheeling sounds of jazz may be what you need to recharge. Roxbury brewery Long Live Beerworks is keeping jazz free, live, and local every week from the tasting room, creating a lineup of Boston-based musicians to serenade the community. This Thursday, the brewery’s taproom will be taken over by Brazilian musician Ian Coury & Friends, who specialize in the Afro-Brazilian style and rhythms of chorinhos. April 3, 6-8:30 p.m. 152 East Hampden St. longlivebeerworks.com

BUILDING ART Globe critic Murray Whyte described Hugh Hayden’s experimental sculptural art as “the stuff of nightmares” — and now it can haunt your dreams for free. Hayden’s blending of art, architecture, and social commentary has awarded him the honor of delivering this year’s Richard Saivetz Architecture Lecture, Brandeis University’s annual lecture series revolving around architecture and design. This Thursday, “Building Americana — A Conversation with Hugh Hayden,” will explore the cultural impacts of architecture on contemporary society, a theme grimly displayed in his exhibit at the Rose Art Museum, “Hugh Hayden: Home Work.” April 3, 3 p.m. Wasserman Cinematheque, 415 South St., Waltham. brandeis.edu
This Saturday, Chilean culture will be celebrated at the Veronica Robles Cultural Center during a night of music, dancing, food, and more. Courtesy of Veronica Robles Cultural Center
FRIEND & FOLKLORE The Veronica Robles Cultural Center in East Boston will be bursting with cultural celebrations this Saturday during its Viva Chile festival. Amid folkloric music and dances by the VROCC Folkloric Ballet, Corazón Chileno, and Grupo Viva Chile Utah, attendees will receive a wide-ranging look at some of Chile’s most cherished traditional practices. Following the dances, Chilean singer Arnaldo Heressman will perform modern originals. April 5, 5:30 p.m. 282 Meridian St. veronicaroblesculturalcenter.org
SOLOS TOGETHER Rather than listening to your instrumentals with a streaming service, you may want to take time to explore some live music this weekend. The Celebrity Series Boston and Ágora’s CROMA Space at Arlington Street Church will host the premiere of composer Alice Gomez’s “Solo(s) Together.” The composition will be performed by a quintet of the Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s brass faculty. April 6, 4 p.m. 351 Boylston St. celebrityseries.org
