A 17-year-old boy is facing adult criminal charges after D.C. police said he was responsible for shooting multiple people near Howard University during homecoming weekend.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), under Title 16, Kaevaughn Dudley, of Northeast, faces a charge of assault with intent to kill (gun) pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court warrant.
The shooting happened around 8:22 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, as Third District officers were patrolling the area surrounding the university’s YardFest event.

Officers responding to gunfire in the 600 block of Howard Place, Northwest, found five people–three men, a woman, and a young boy–and immediately started aiding them until paramedics arrived to take them to nearby hospitals.
MPD officials said the men and the boy were expected to survive their injuries, while the woman is still hospitalized.
Minutes after the shooting, police detained two people and recovered two guns. However, investigators later learned those individuals had nothing to do with the shooting.

Detectives reviewed hundreds of hours of CCTV, private surveillance, and Metro system camera footage. Video from the scene allegedly showed Dudley opening fire after a brief altercation between two groups.
After Dudley was named as the possible shooter, he was arrested on Friday without incident.
