American singer and pianist Michael Feinstein, who has long been known for preserving and reviving the Great American Songbook Foundation, and his partner Terrence Flannery, are listing their West Hollywood Hills home for $4.49 million, which is almost double what they paid for it last year. The 1936 Spanish-style villa was sold for $2.72 million in 2024, according to The New York Post, which reported the news on Wednesday afternoon.
Though the couple went through many renovations for the 4-bedroom-4 bath home, they realized they wanted a bigger space for entertainment needs. They are looking for a new home in the Beverly Hills area.
“We find ourselves needing more space as our circle of friends and family continue to spend more time with us,” Feinstein told the Post. “We also are spending more time on the West Side because of our production and business projects.”
Feinstein, 69, and his husband already have an extensive real estate portfolio, with multiple properties in New York City, Carmel, Indiana and Pasadena. In late 2020, the couple sold a Los Feliz mansion they had owned for 20 years.
Born in Columbus, Ohio in 1956, Feinstein started playing piano by ear at a young age and later worked as an assistant to Ira Gershwin, which gave him firsthand exposure to the history of American popular music. Over his decades-long career, he has released numerous acclaimed recordings, conducted leading symphony orchestras and performed at multiple prestigious venues worldwide.
Beyond his performances, Feinstein founded The Great American Songbook Foundation, which promotes education and preservation of classic American popular music, and he has hosted concerts, PBS specials and radio programs dedicated to jazz. His work has helped introduce timeless music by composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin to new generations.
