The holiday season in Southwest Louisiana is filled with traditions that bring families together and support local businesses.
From Sulphur to DeQuincy, residents and visitors alike can enjoy festive markets, art walks, parades and celebrations that highlight the creativity and spirit of the community.
This year’s calendar offers a wide range of opportunities to shop, stroll and celebrate while making memories that last well beyond December.
Southwest Louisiana also offers unique holiday experiences that go beyond shopping. These events highlight creativity, tradition and community spirit, ensuring that the season is filled with memorable moments.
The Holiday House
Sulphur embraces the season with Christmas Under the Oaks, centered at the Brimstone Museum Complex and Heritage Square. The Holiday House is the centerpiece of this festival, offering nearly 40 shops filled with Christmas gift ideas. The event runs Dec. 5-6 with shopping hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day.
A preview gala on Dec. 4 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. allows guests to enjoy music, food, and drinks while getting first pick of vendor offerings. Tickets for the gala are $35, while entry to the Holiday House on Friday and Saturday is $5. Carnival rides, carriage rides along Pecan Street and live entertainment add to the festive atmosphere.
The Sulphur Kiwanis Club’s annual Christmas Parade takes place at 11 a.m. Dec. 6 followed by the arrival of Santa. The lighting of the tree is scheduled for Friday evening, and Saturday night promises a 100 percent chance of snow at 8:30 p.m.
Downtown Holiday Stroll
On Dec. 11, downtown Lake Charles transforms into a winter wonderland for the annual Downtown Holiday Stroll. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., visitors can enjoy live performances, sip cocoa and shop for unique gifts. Local storefronts and vendors join in the fun, creating a festive atmosphere that lasts for one magical evening.
The stroll is free to attend and offers a chance to experience the sights and sounds of the season while supporting downtown businesses. It has become a cherished tradition for families who enjoy the blend of shopping and entertainment in the heart of the city.
Acton Children’s Business Fair and Christmas Market
The Acton Children’s Business Fair and Christmas Market returns for its sixth year on Dec. 13 at Burton Coliseum. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., more than 60 young entrepreneurs will showcase their products and services.
Admission is free, and last year’s fair drew more than 900 shoppers eager to purchase handmade gifts and treats. The event includes live music, food trucks and photos with Santa.
Tuff in Da Bluff Christmas Market
On Dec. 13, shoppers can enjoy the Tuff in Da Bluff Christmas Market. Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., this free event features vendors selling home décor, sweets, clothing and more. Both indoor and outdoor booths provide plenty of opportunities to find holiday gifts. Pictures with Santa, food trucks and coffee vendors add to the festive experience.
The market has quickly become a favorite for those seeking a relaxed shopping environment with a wide variety of offerings. It provides another chance to support local businesses while enjoying the holiday spirit.
Holiday Train Rides
Beginning Nov. 29 and running each Saturday through Dec. 20, Millennium Park hosts free holiday train rides from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sponsored by Partners in Parks, the rides offer families a chance to enjoy festive lights and seasonal fun along the lakeshore.
Christmas Carriage Rides
Almosta Ranch offers private carriage and sleigh rides departing from the Lake Charles Event Center. Available on select dates through Dec. 23, rides last about an hour and travel along Shell Beach Drive.
Options include a two-person carriage for $200, a six-person carriage for $300, and a wagon for up to 12 people at $400. The rides provide an exclusive experience, with blankets and covered carriages available in case of rain. Reservations are required, and demand is high during the holiday season.
The Grinch at Southlake Theater
From Dec. 4 to 7, Southlake Theater presents Illumination’s 2018 animated film “The Grinch.” General admission tickets are $35 and include riser seating, hot chocolate in a souvenir cup and a sweet treat.
VIP tickets are $55 and include preferred seating, concessions service, a holiday ornament, and a meet-and-greet with Santa. Showtimes run Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
Dickens in DeQuincy
On Dec. 6, downtown DeQuincy transforms into a Dickens-inspired holiday village. The free event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and includes a farmers market, choir performances, a costume contest, a parade, tree lighting and fireworks. Inspired by the works of Charles Dickens, the celebration blends nostalgia with community spirit, offering something for all ages.
Westlake Christmas Parade
Westlake hosts its annual Christmas Festival on Dec. 6, beginning with a parade at 1 p.m. along Sampson St. Sponsored by the Westlake Rotary, the parade features candy, festive floats, and plenty of holiday cheer. Applications are available at the Westlake Recreation office.
