With the FIFA World Cup bringing world-class soccer to North Texas next summer, Dallas’ leading cultural institutions aren’t sitting on the sidelines. Organizers on Dec. 5 announced a series of community events set to take place from June 19 to July 11.
Here’s an early look at some of the highlights, with more details to be announced in the new year. Organizers say a major public art installation will also be announced early next year.
Dallas Arts District
June 19: Pride Block Party
This event attracts thousands of visitors annually, celebrating the diversity and welcoming spirit of Dallas. The street party spills over into some of the city’s top museums, including the Dallas Museum of Art, the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Crow Museum of Asian Art.
June 26: Flora Street Live
This block party will include ticketed performances in Strauss Square, a Broadway Dallas presentation of the musical Clue in the Winspear Opera House and a performance by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra at the Meyerson Symphony Center. TITAS/Dance Unbound will present a showcase of local arts organizations in Moody Performance Hall and Sammons Park will host a free festival.
July 4: Independence Day Celebration
This annual event at Klyde Warren Park will mark the nation’s 250th birthday with live performances and fireworks.
July 9: Thursdays on Tap: Soccer Edition
A special edition of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science’s Thursdays on Tap program will feature food, live music and more. The Perot will also be presenting an exhibit on the science of soccer during the World Cup.

Dallas Zoo and Halperin Park
June 21: Nocturnal Animal Walk and Performances
Halperin Park — the city’s newest deck park, slated to open in the spring — will host live performances and food trucks, and the neighboring Dallas Zoo will be lit up with lanterns as it hosts animal-themed activities and musical performances.
Oak Cliff
June 24: Copa de Cliff Oak Cliff
Bishop Avenue, Jefferson Boulevard and Winnetka Avenue will be filled with performances, classic cars, food, vendors and more in this celebration of the neighborhood’s history and culture.
Deep Ellum
July 11: Deep Ellum Block Party
The Deep Ellum Foundation is sponsoring this music, art and literary festival in venues and public spaces throughout the cultural district. Expect live music, literary readings, spoken word performances, a local art market and more.
