In a recent interview at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, actress Amanda Seyfried discussed which of her films she was most excited to share with her daughter. Seyfried, a prominent film star of the 2000s, has an extensive filmography, yet she revealed that the decision was not entirely hers.
Seyfried explained in the interview with Entertainment Tonight that the most obvious choice would be the hit 2008 film, ‘Mamma Mia!’, a film centered on a mother–daughter relationship. However, she admitted that her mother was the first to introduce the film to her daughter. Instead, Seyfried expressed particular excitement about sharing ‘Mean Girls’ (2004), one of her most iconic roles.
Written by comedian Tina Fey, ‘Mean Girls’ is a satirical comedy that explores the societal hierarchies and social pressures faced by teenage girls. Seyfried, starring as Karen Smith, a member of the popular clique known as “the Plastics,” delivered a performance that remains culturally significant. Since its release, the film continues to be widely celebrated for its humor and commentary on female adolescence, leaving a lasting impact on popular culture.
Seyfried revealed that her daughter first watched ‘Mean Girls’ while spending time with filmmaker Mona Fastvold’s daughter during a work trip to Zurich, Switzerland. Reflecting on the experience, Seyfried said, “This is exactly right. This is artful, this is smart, and maybe a little over her head. But what she’s gonna take from it is humor”.
