Researchers report no serious adverse events or deaths from daily doses of dried kratom leaf powder
WASHINGTON, DC, January 08, 2026 (EZ Newswire) — The Global Kratom Coalition (GKC) today endorsed the findings of a new clinical study published in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, which showed that natural kratom leaf powder was safe and well tolerated at the serving sizes tested, with no evidence of meaningful abuse potential or withdrawal.
In this large, controlled natural kratom-administration study — the 18th kratom leaf human clinical trial to date — researchers evaluated the safety and tolerability of four escalating single and 15 daily dried kratom leaf powder servings in human volunteers over 47 days, reporting no serious adverse events, no withdrawal, and no meaningful abuse potential.
“The study’s findings underscore natural kratom leaf’s established safety profile, reinforced by centuries of safe use in communities from Southeast Asia to here in the United States,” said Matthew Lowe, GKC’s executive director. “With scant evidence of abuse liability and a low acute overdose risk, the science shows that natural kratom leaf remains safe and well tolerated when consumed responsibly.”
The new study follows several previous clinical trials and statements by public health officials affirming the safety and tolerability of natural kratom leaf — and clarifying that reported natural kratom leaf fatalities are rare and overwhelmingly involve polysubstance use, not natural kratom leaf alone.
