Jenna Bush Hager is expanding her repertoire. The longtime “Today” host confirmed Tuesday that she will executive produce “Protection,” a new series currently in development at NBC.
She shared the news on her Instagram Stories with a screenshot of Deadline’s report. “What a day!!!” she captioned the post. She also tagged Josh Safran, who wrote and created the show.
While Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, is a household name for her work on “Today,” this new series marks her first major foray into the world of scripted storytelling. “Protection” is being developed through Thousand Voices, the production company Hager launched last year under a first-look deal with Universal Studio Group.
Hager will executive produce the series alongside Safran and her production executive, Ben Spector.
According to Deadline, in “Protection,” when U.S. Marshal’s death reveals a deadly conspiracy, a family of law enforcement agents must use their expertise to protect each other from an assassin and bring the killer to justice, even if it means breaking the law.
It’s unclear if Hager’s new role will have any impact on her work on “Today.”
Hager has been a staple of the NBC family since joining in 2009. After starting as a correspondent, she eventually moved into a permanent co-hosting role on the third hour of the morning program, which was recently rebranded as “Today with Jenna & Sheinelle.”
She’s also a bestselling author and runs the popular “Read With Jenna” book club.
