MCU Weekend Post-Credits: Wonder Man’s Early Reactions, Mark Ruffalo on Doomsday, Star-Lord’s MCU Return, And More
Wonder Man Reactions & RT Score — Ahead of its official premiere on January 27th, early reviews from critics of Marvel’s Wonder Man have been overwhelmingly positive, with the series currently sitting at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Having seen the show myself, I can confirm that Wonder Man is an incredibly fun time and easily one of the MCU’s most character-driven projects.
Mark Ruffalo Confirms The Hulk Is Not In Avengers: Doomsday — Mark Ruffalo confirmed that Bruce Banner’s Hulk will not be in Avengers: Doomsday, though Banner will be returning this year in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Whether he appears in Avengers: Secret Wars remains to be seen (though it does seem likely).
Chris Pratt on Star-Lord’s MCU Return — While he didn’t confirm an official return to the MCU as Peter Quill, Chris Pratt did voice his desire to make good on the promise made at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return”. Pratt also spoke about having a vision for the character’s future, as well as a willingness to work with the right director other than James Gunn (who’s now running DC Studios).
Mike Colter on Luke Cage/Defenders Return — Actor Mike Colter also voiced his interest in returning as the MCU’s Luke Cage and bringing back the full Defenders team, confirming that conversations have been happening in light of Daredevil: Born Again and Jessica Jones’ upcoming return in the second season.
Sam Raimi on Spider-Man 4 — While promoting his new movie Send Help, director Sam Raimi confirmed the ship has essentially sailed when it comes to Spider-Man 4 and his return to the franchise.
Destin Daniel Cretton Confirms Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s “Tonal” Shift — While promoting Wonder Man, director Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will feature a significant shift in tone for Peter Parker’s story, having entered a new stage of his life compared to the first MCU trilogy.
Jacob Batalon Confirms Ned Leeds’ Brand New Day Return — While it had been previously reported, actor Jacob Batalon confirmed for the first time that Ned Leeds will indeed return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Hawkeye Season 2 Likely Not Happening — Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest, who was previously a consulting producer on Hawkeye’s first season, seemed to confirm that a second season of Hawkeye starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld won’t be happening. This supports an update from Renner himself a few months ago that development had stalled over pay disputes.
Christina Hodson Revealed As The Current Writer For Brave and the Bold — Christina Hodson has been confirmed as the current screenwriter for The Brave and the Bold, the upcoming DCU Batman movie. Hodson previously worked on 2023’s The Flash, 2020’s Birds of Prey, as well as 2018’s Bumblebee.
James Gunn Shares Updates On DCU’s Batman Movie Script & Robin Spin-Off — DC Studios head James Gunn confirmed there won’t be many Brave and the Bold updates as the studio is currently in the midst of producing The Batman – Part II. Gunn also confirmed that the animated feature Dynamic Duo will not be set in the main DCU canon, but will instead be an Elseworlds story like Matt Reeves’ The Batman saga.
Grant Gustin Addresses Playing The Flash Again After James Gunn’s DCU Comments — After the internet freaked out that actor Grant Gustin has dyed his hair blonde, the former Flash actor confirmed he did not dye his hair to play the DCU’s Barry Allen. However, he did reiterate that he would welcome any opportunity to play a version of The Flash in the future (following Gunn’s recent posts sharing his appreciation for the actor).
Our Best Look Yet At Jason Moma as the DCU’s Lobo — DC Studios also gave us an even better look at Jason Momoa’s Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie, as well as an official poster of the character. The new role for Momoa is quite impressive, who truly does look like the intergalactic bounty hunter ripped straight from the page.

The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
