Timothy Olyphant has officially broken a seven-year television streak thanks to his return as a villain in a hit Apple TV series. As U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in Justified and Sheriff Seth Bullock in Deadwood, Timothy Olyphant’s lawman characters are instantly recognizable.
The actor has continued to make his mark on television with roles that include Joel Hammond in Santa Clarita Diet, Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the Terminator in Terminator Zero, Kirsh in Alien: Earth, and even playing a fictional version of himself in an episode of The Good Place. Olyphant’s success is now further cemented by the career streak he has broken.
Timothy Olyphant Hasn’t Had A Returning TV Role Since Netflix Canceled Santa Clarita Diet In 2019
After Netflix canceled Santa Clarita Diet in 2019, Olyphant has not come back for another season of any show. This is a surprising streak after he starred in three seasons of Santa Clarita Diet, six seasons of Justified, and three seasons of Deadwood. Since 2019, Olyphant has reprised the role of Raylan Givens in Justified City: Primeval, but the miniseries is technically a spinoff and not another season of Justified.
Olyphant also played the fan-favorite Star Wars character Cobb Vanth more than once, first in The Mandalorian season 2 in 2020 and then in The Book of Boba Fett in 2022. While the two stories are deeply connected and both part of the larger Star Wars canon, they are also different shows. Despite confirming that he was still alive in The Book of Boba Fett finale’s post-credits scene, Cobb Vanth did not return in The Mandalorian season 3, which came to Disney+ in 2023.
Timothy Olyphant Is Now Returning As The Villain In Apple TV’s Stick Season 2
Olyphant’s streak is over since he is returning to Apple TV’s Stick for season 2. In season 1 of the sports comedy series, he played the villain Clark Ross, who is the former rival and golf partner of Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson). After having a recurring role in season 1, Olyphant has been upgraded to a series regular, as has Judy Greer. The series has a “Certified Fresh” 82% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 72% audience score.
