The community-funded event series will bring food trucks, local artists, and live music to the downtown area.
VERNON, CT — The dates for summer street festivals in downtown Rockville are set following a successful community fundraising effort, town officials said.
The “Meet on the Street” festival series is scheduled for May 21, June 18 and July 16, with events running from 6 to 9 p.m. on Court Street in the town’s historic downtown district.
The announcement follows the conclusion of a crowdfunding campaign in early March that raised $7,645 from supporters of local arts and culture. A $6,000 matching grant from Sustainable CT brought the total to $13,645.
Officials said the funding will help cover costs associated with public safety and sanitation, while also supporting efforts to attract local artists, performers and food vendors.
The town is continuing to accept donations even after the matching portion of the campaign ended. Contributions are tax-deductible and can be made payable to the Town of Vernon, with “StreetFest” noted in the memo line.
Organizers are also accepting applications from vendors, including food trucks, crafters, civic organizations and local businesses. Performers interested in appearing on the main stage may apply through the town’s website.
Residents and businesses can support the events through sponsorships or by volunteering to assist with festival operations.
“No one can do everything, but we all can do something,” organizers said in the announcement.
Officials said the festival series is intended to highlight the downtown area and provide a platform for regional talent, with large crowds expected to attend the summer events.
