New U.S. Attorney takes oath
Adam L. Mildred was sworn in recently as the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady, a release said.
Mildred was nominated by President Donald J. Trump and then confirmed by the Senate in December. He is a native of Fort Wayne and earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Bloomington and his Juris Doctor from IU’s Maurer School of Law. Mildred has spent his entire career as a professional prosecutor.
Franciscan to host doula workshop
Franciscan Health Crown Point is hosting a DONA International Birth Doula workshop over two weekends in February and March, according to a release.
Doulas are trained professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to their clients before, during and shortly after childbirth. The doula workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Feb. 21-22 and Feb. 28-March 1 at Franciscan Health Crown Point, 12750 St. Francis Drive. Participants must be 18 years old or older and attend all four days of classes to receive a certificate of completion.

Braun adds to state commissions
Gov. Mike Braun recently announced two men from Lake and Porter counties have been appointed to a pair of state boards, a release said.
Added to the Lake County Convention Center Authority is Chuck Williams of C.L. Williams and Companies in Porter County. His term runs through June 30, 2027.
Joining the Board of Firefighting Personnel Standards and Education is Christopher Gamblin from the Lowell Fire Department. His term will expire Oct. 31, 2028.
Stroke support groups scheduled
Franciscan Health Crown Point and Michigan City are offering monthly free stroke support groups for stroke survivors, their families and caregivers, according to a release.
The Michigan City group will meet at 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Mother Maria Theresia Conference Room at Franciscan Health Michigan City, 3500 Franciscan Way. For information, contact Kelly Wise at Kelly.Wise@franciscanalliance.org.

Munster Steel recently made a $50,000 commitment to Humane Indiana through Humane Indiana’s 2026 Annual Sponsorship Program, according to a Facebook post.
