As the cold weather of winter settles in to New England, you may be looking for indoor activities to pass the time.
Luckily, Cape Cod does offer an activity that allows you to stay indoors while still getting in the holiday spirit: ice skating. Plenty of ice rinks can be found throughout Cape Cod, many of which offer lessons, food and special events in addition to public ice skating.
Here are five places to ice skate on Cape Cod this winter.
Gallo Ice Arena
Located in Bourne, Gallo Ice Arena offers public skating, skating lessons, figure skating classes, private ice time and more.
Public skating rates are $5 per person or $3 for military members and seniors, and skates cost $5 per pair to rent. Gallo also offers special senior skating time at $3 per person age 50 or older. For public skating dates and times, view the online calendar.
Gallo Ice Arena is located at 231 Sandwich Road in Bourne.
Hyannis Youth & Community Center
This year-round sports complex not only has two indoor ice rinks, but also a walking track, a game room and a gym with various sports and events. Along with public ice skating, the rinks at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center offer freestyle figure skating and hockey stick practice.
The cost for public skating is $8 for adults, $6 for students or $3 for seniors and veterans. Skates are also available to rent for $6 or sharpen for $7.
Public skating is available almost every day, typically starting at 12:30 p.m. on weekdays or later in the afternoon on weekends. Hours differ slightly depending on the date, so it is best to check the online calendar.
The Hyannis rink is located at 141 Bassett Lane. in Hyannis.
Charles Moore Arena
This community rink on the Lower Cape offers activities like figure skating, hockey and curling in addition to public skate time. Interested parties can visit the arena for public skating every Sunday from 1:30-3:30 p.m. or every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission costs $10, and skate rentals cost an additional $4.
Charles Moore Arena is located at 23 O’Connor Road in Orleans.
Tony Kent Arena
Tony Kent Arena in Dennis prides itself on providing a high-quality ice skating facility for all ages, offering recreational, educational and competitive programs.
Outside of hosting various local hockey teams and a premiere training facility, Tony Kent opens various programs to the public, including adult open stick time and birthday parties on ice.
Public skating costs $10 for adults, $7 for children or $4 for seniors, with skates available for an additional $5. Skating hours can be found through the rink’s online calendar, and the arena can be found at 8 South Gates Way in Dennis.
Falmouth Ice Arena
Falmouth Ice Arena, home of the Falmouth Youth Hockey League, hosts specialty skating events and lessons, including adult women’s hockey skills and introductory goalie lessons. Public skating hours can be found online.
