Reminder of the case Amber Heard and Johnny Depp
At the end of seven weeks of this ultra-publicized and ultra-followed trial, the jury delivered its verdict on June 1, 2022.
Amber Heard was ordered by the two female and five male jurors to pay the comedian $15million in damages for describing herself as a ‘public figure representing domestic abuse’ – she did not name her former husband – in a column she signed in December 2018 in the washington post.
In April 2020, the 30-year-old replied in a counter-demand to have been defamed by Adam Waldman, the former lawyer of her ex-spouse. The latter had described his accusations of domestic violence as a “set up” that same month. She had filed a complaint for defamation in turn, and the jurors also found Johnny Depp guilty, and sentenced him to pay two million dollars to Amber Heard.
After announcing that she was appealing the verdict, the actress now living in Spain with her daughter, said in a long statement posted on Instagram last December, that she had “made the difficult decision to conclude an agreement”, refraining from inflict trial for the third time.
