EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – This Saturday is Drug Take Back Day and Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul is working with law enforcement and health officials to make sure people know about it.
More than 150 events are planned around the state where Wisconsinites can dispose of unwanted and unused medications.
AG Kaul says keeping old prescriptions can lead to substance abuse and flushing them down the toilet can cause other issues, too.
“It’s also important for our environment that medications not be flushed. Years and years ago, people were often told to flush their medications. But what we’ve learned over time is that water reclamation facilities don’t filter out all the medication that that gets flushed and we don’t want to see medications ending up in our water supplies,” said AG Josh Kaul.
This Saturday, drug take back sites in the Chippewa Valley include the Eau Claire County Government Building, Altoona Police Department and Lake Hallie Walmart.
There’s also more than 500 permanent medication disposal boxes across the state.
