Tributes have poured in following the death of Floyd Vivino, aka “Uncle Floyd,” a beloved New Jersey comedian, musician and TV personality.
Born in Paterson in 1951, the longtime Passaic County Resident and graduate of Glen Rock High School became a cult figure in the Garden State with the “Uncle Floyd Show,” which ran on local cable from 1974 until 2001.
In the years after his show, Uncle Floyd continued his career in comedy, performing up to 300 shows per year around the state. He also appeared in “Good Morning, Vietnam” with Robin Williams.
Vivino died Jan. 22 at 74 years old after dealing with health issues the past two and a half years, his brother Jerry Vivino said in a post on social media, writing, “Rest in peace big brother. You will be missed, but always remembered by friends, family and your loving fans.”
Remembering Uncle Floyd
Remembrances for Vivino began to flood the internet shortly after the announcement of his passing, from public figures and New Jersey residents alike.
“Uncle Floyd was like family to me,” Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh said. “My mother laughed at all of his jokes and my wife thoroughly enjoyed his comedic routine. Sadly, one of the funniest Patersonians to ever live has left this life. May Floyd Vivino rest in eternal peace.”
