ALTADENA, Calif. (KABC) — A century home originally located in West Hollywood has been saved from demolition and transported to Altadena, where it will replace a home destroyed by the Eaton fire.
The move is part of the Historic House Relocation Project, an effort to relocate unwanted historic homes across Los Angeles County and give them new life in communities rebuilding after the wildfire.
“We just moved this 1926 house from West Hollywood to Altadena as part of our fire rebuild program,” said Morgan Sykes Jaybush, the creative director at Omgivning.
The structure was transported in two sections last week.
Crews spent about four hours hauling the final section along a 26-mile route before arriving around 3 a.m. Friday.
Program organizers say the project aims both to preserve historic architecture and to provide replacement homes for families who lost theirs in the fire.
“This is the third house that we’ve moved as part of the Historic House Relocation Project. We have six more lined up that we’re going to be moving in the next few months and we have over 200 people on our interest list,” Jaybush said.
Homeowners are expected to move into the refurbished house in about five months. Jaybush said additional properties remain available for future matches.
“We still have a lot of houses that we’re waiting for the right person to pair up with each house, so if anyone is interested, please reach out to us,” Jaybush said.
