The already tough will soon get tougher.
Parking at the Hollywood Bowl is already a limited hodge-podge, but the venue is cutting back even more on available parking options for the start of its season on April 11.
The outdoor amphitheater mandates that concertgoers can no longer park in Lots B and C, which will be transformed into transportation hubs. The lots are located on opposite sides of North Highland Avenue.
The hubs are to “streamline rideshare, bus, and shuttle traffic,” reports the Los Angeles Times.
Lot B will still be available for ADA Accessible parking. Lot C will be used just for rideshares. The Bowl’s seating capacity is 17,500, and estimates indicate that more than 300 parking spaces will vanish with the changes.
The L.A. Phil’s Interim CEO Daniel Song told the Times that the move was meant to manage traffic around the venue during events.
“People don’t like getting to the Bowl, but everyone loves the Bowl,” he said. “So if there’s a barrier (for) someone to be able to come to the Bowl, we’re going to try to fix that and we’re going to try to mitigate that as best as we can.”
He added, “We wouldn’t be rolling this out unless we were confident that long-term, long-game, this is going to be an improvement of everyone that comes to the Hollywood Bowl .
The Bowl’s 2024 season begins April 11 with a Jimmy Buffett tribute concert. Buffett shows typically attract a big tailgating crowd, which will not find the lack of parking conducive to that activity.
