Superbad is a 2007 comedy-drama film directed by Greg Mottola. The movie features Hollywood stars, including Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Emma Stone, and others.
This teen buddy comedy film is still popular because of its raunchy humor — which showcases the insecurities and anxieties of teenage boys.
Its lead actors, Jonah Hill (Seth) and Emma Stone (Jules), partner in the film. And both actors had to share a passionate (yet clumsy) kiss for a scene. So, to make it look more authentic, the actor turned to alcohol for help.

Jonah Hill Used Alcohol to Prepare for Superbad Kissing Scene
Superbad is a hilariously funny comedy. In this film, Hill and Stone had several scenes together because the actress played Hill’s high school crush. They eventually had a kissing scene that didn’t go as planned in the film, but Hill wanted to make it more realistic. He once explained the incident (as per Contact Music):
“I hate watching films where someone’s supposed to be drunk and you can tell that they’re not. In Superbad I was really concerned about the scene where I had to kiss Emma Stone and end up headbutting her. I wanted it to feel real, so I got a bottle of vodka and just starting hammering it.”
Superbad isn’t the only film in which both the actors worked together. They also had an amazing reunion at the Netflix’s psychological black comedy-drama miniseries.

Jonah Hill and Emma Stone Had an Amazing Reunion in Another Project
In 2018, Jonah Hill and Emma Stone worked together on the Netflix series Maniac. Despite their long working history, the Oscar winner clarified that their reunion for Maniac wasn’t as monumental. It is because they had remained friends even after their work in Superbad. As the La La Land star said (via Yahoo):
“We’ve always stayed in touch, so it wasn’t really like, ‘Oh my god, we haven’t seen each other for a decade and now we’re getting to know each other again!’ But it was amazing to spend so much time in a row together.”
Even Hill agreed with Stone, emphasizing the value of collaborating with someone you admire in the entertainment industry. He said it was a “condensed” but enjoyable experience, as they often worked in different locations. But after all, the time they spent on set during Maniac was meaningful.
