Ahead of the release of Star Trek: Section 31, Michelle Yeoh has teased one of her upcoming science fiction movies, Avatar 4. A set photo that surfaced online in 2021 confirmed that Yeoh would be part of future Avatar movies. While audiences initially believed she would be appearing in the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in the series, director James Cameron clarified that her character will not appear until the fourth installment. Currently, the fourth movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 21, 2029.
On the red carpet for the premiere of Star Trek: Section 31, Yeoh talked to Screen Rant’s own Liam Crowley about her experience working on Avatar 4. Comparing it to Star Trek: Section 31, she claimed that working on the Avatar movies was a completely different experience. The Oscar winner further stated that “you never know what to expect” from Cameron. Read Yeoh’s full quote below:
No, it’s going to be completely different. James [Cameron], you never know what to expect from him. So, I’m really, really looking forward to stepping back into that world because it’s a very different world with the Avatars and things like that. It’s not the same. It’s not the same kind of acting, but it’s the same kind of creativity and imagination.

Only two Avatar movies have been released, which makes it hard to predict the plot of Avatar 4. Furthermore, since the fourth installment is still many years away from being released, it has not been revealed who Yeoh’s character will be in the movie. It seems like every new movie reveals new Na’vi tribes, which makes it possible that she will be playing the leader of a new clan. However, it’s also possible that Yeoh will portray a human character in Avatar 4.
