Sophomore Jeremy Bradley wasn’t nervous going into Thursday’s Boston City League swimming championships. After all, Latin Academy had won the title 16 consecutive times, and this year was no different.
That composure showed in the pool at Madison Park High, where the Dragons extended their dynasty with a 17th city title in a row, scoring 120 points and winning six of the meet’s 11 co-ed events. O’Bryant (111 points) followed closely and East Boston (41) placed third.
“The whole energy on the Latin Academy swim team is so great that I think that’s the reason why we’re continuing to win,” Bradley said.
Bradley led the way with individual victories in the 50-yard freestyle (22.47 seconds) and the 100 free (49.59 seconds). He also contributed to wins in the 200 free relay (1:47.69) and the 200 medley relay (1:59.43), anchoring a balanced effort that Latin Academy coach Richard Mojica emphasized going into the meet.

“It was the team dynamic and the team that won that championship. Like I explained to them, ‘Jeremy can’t win the meet for you,’ ” Mojica said. “Second, third, fourth, those places are going to win.”

That proved true. Sophomore Marcus Ochoa won the 100 butterfly (1:03.97) by 10 seconds and took second place in the 200 free (2:11.99), and junior Kevin Anderson won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.18).
Bradley, who was named boys’ swimmer of the meet, said his development this season has been driven by technical and physical improvements under Mojica’s guidance.
“Specifically for the 50 freestyle, coach Richard has helped me work on it a lot, with my stroke. If you look at it from last year to this year, it’s completely new,” Bradley said.
Mojica pointed to Bradley’s development as emblematic of the program’s success.
“He started in lane six. He used to splash the officials when he dove in,” Mojica said. “His progression throughout the years, his focus on trying to get better, that was it. He went from being last to being first.”

O’Bryant kept it competitive, powered by junior Yiorgo Katsompenakis, who won the 500 free (6:06.69) and 200 free (2:08.81). Katsompenakis also helped anchor O’Bryant’s victory in the 400 free relay, keeping the pressure on Latin Academy.
“We got really close, the closest we have been in years, and we’re really proud that we’re working really hard,” Katsompenakis said.
O’Bryant also secured a win in the 100 backstroke courtesy of senior Carlita Rodriguez (1:09.68), who was named girls’ swimmer of the meet. Junior Dalyana Hamilton also took first in the individual medley (2:35.13).
