The Los Angeles City Council approved an expansion to the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City Hotel, one of Universal Studios Hollywood’s partner hotels.
According to KTLA, the City Council approved a 300,000-square-foot, 18-story tower expansion. Planning documents indicate the tower will add 395 guest rooms, a spa, a restaurant, an indoor/outdoor bar, a rooftop pool deck, a meeting room, and two new pools. The expansion will also include a three-level parking garage and a new single-level lobby connected to the existing building.
The Hilton Universal City Hotel is at 555 E. Universal Hollywood Drive, just a short walk from CityWalk. It’s currently comprised of a 24-story building. With the additional tower, the hotel will provide 890 total guest rooms across 696,609 square feet.
Hotel operator Sun Hill Properties Inc. originally announced the expansion plan in 2018.
“After over 30 years of serving Los Angeles and the greater San Fernando Valley, we owe these additional rooms to the region as we prepare to host the 2028 Olympic Games and tourism numbers continue to rise,” Sun Hill Properties president and CEO Mark Davis said in a statement.
