Summary Ant-Man’s unique ability to become Giant-Man could ultimately lead to his death in Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Recent storylines in the Multiverse Saga, including Ant-Man writing a book and hints at his daughter Cassie’s superhero future, suggest that Ant-Man may be the next heroic sacrifice.
Ant-Man’s potential death could pave the way for new and exciting storylines, such as the formation of the Young Avengers and Cassie’s superhero journey.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is preparing for two major crossover events in its upcoming Phase 6, and it seems to have already set up the death of one Avenger: Ant-Man (Paul Rudd). With the original Avengers team no longer active, the Multiverse Saga is expected to see the formation of a new Avengers team with the surviving heroes of the Infinity Saga and new characters – however, given the massive multiversal conflict they are about to face in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, some team members are also expected to die, similarly to Tony Stark in Avengers: Endgame.
Various Avengers who survived the Battle of Earth and weren’t part of the original team have been theorized to die in the upcoming crossover events with Kang and his variants, among them Ant-Man. Scott Lang’s demise has been rumored since Captain America: Civil War, but he has proven to be a key player in the MCU thanks to his unique powers and abilities – but one of his most impressive powers is what is now setting him up to die in Phase 6.

Ant-Man’s Power Reveal Foreshadows A Phase 6 Death
Ant-Man’s main power is shrinking to the size of an ant (or more, but that can be very dangerous), but since Civil War, he has been using another power that turns him into Giant-Man. Ant-Man used it during the battle at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Civil War, during Ant-Man and the Wasp, the Battle of Earth in Avengers: Endgame, and at the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wap: Quantumania. However, the effects of becoming a giant are very different from those when becoming tiny, and this can be what leads Scott Lang to his death in Phase 6.
Quantumania revealed that Scott Lang wrote a book, titled Look Out For The Little Guy, between the events of Endgame and Quantumania, and this book is actually available for purchase. Ant-Man’s book includes a Q&A section in which a couple of secrets about Ant-Man and his fellow Avengers have been revealed. One of those questions is if there’s a limit to how big Ant-Man can grow as Giant-Man. Scott explains that self-enlargement is something that should be taken seriously and any user of the Ant-Man or Wasp suits should be careful with it, as it takes “a big toll on the human body” for various reasons. Ant-Man adds that it puts “a strain on my nervous system”, so if he hits a certain threshold when growing into a giant size, he starts to see things… such as the ground coming toward him.
So far, the MCU has shown some minor effects on Scott Lang whenever he becomes Giant-Man, such as fainting, getting very exhausted, and also very, very hungry, with a craving for citrus fruit. Surely, as Ant-Man continues to use this power, it will have bigger and more serious effects on his body, and if becoming Giant-Man is what can save everyone while battling Kang’s variants and other threats, this could be Ant-Man’s heroic sacrifice.
Ant-Man’s Phase 6 Death Would Explain Several Recent MCU Storylines
As mentioned above, Ant-Man’s death has been rumored to happen for a while now, but there weren’t any actual clues in the MCU that pointed to his demise coming soon. However, some recent storylines in the Multiverse Saga can now support the belief that Ant-Man won’t survive the upcoming crossover events. Ant-Man writing a book fits with the belief of him being the next noble hero sacrifice, as well as how Quantumania kept teasing Cassie Lang’s superhero future, as she would be taking her father’s place after he’s gone. Surely, Ant-Man’s death would be one of the most tragic moments of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, but it can make way for other exciting stories, such as Cassie’s superhero journey and, possibly, the formation of the Young Avengers.
