Menards will pay Wisconsin $750,000 to settle a deceptive advertising investigation.
The home improvement store will make its 11% rebate program more user-friendly for shoppers.
An investigation found Menards falsely advertised its mail-in rebate as a point-of-sale discount.
MADISON – Menards will pay the state of Wisconsin $750,000 and adjust its rebate program as a result of a deceptive advertising practices investigation by Wisconsin and nine other states.
The Wisconsin-based home improvement store known for its 11% mail-in rebates has committed, as part of the settlement, to making the rebate program friendlier to shoppers by allowing claim submissions up to a year from purchase and looking into offering an option for online submission.
Menards will also more clearly disclose the limitations of the in-store credit rebate program, and will be barred from advertising it as a point-of-sale discount. It will also consider allowing customers to redeem their rebates for online purchases.
