White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller said border patrol agents might not have followed the administration’s instructions in the events that led to the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a rare retreat from one of President Donald Trump ’s top aides and immigration hardliners.
In a written statement, Miller responded as questions swirl about why both he and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem swiftly accused Pretti of wanting to massacre border agents, when video showed no evidence of that before he was surrounded and fatally shot by federal officers.
