Despite the recent news of MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo closing this summer to make way for the new “Monsters Inc.”-themed land, Disney has still not yet announced a closing date for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.
MuppetVision Closing, But Not Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster… Yet
On Friday, January 24, Disney announced the final dates of operation for MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo, which will close to make way for the previously-announced Monsters Inc. land.
The affected section of Grand Avenue will close in phases, with the Muppets-focused phase happening this summer. The final date of operation for MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo will be June 7, meaning that both will be closed on June 8.
However, no closing date was announced for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, which will soon send the band on a super-stretch limo out of Hollywood to make way for a new experience featuring The Muppets. The poster released with the initial announcement from 2024 features Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem alongside Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.
Although Kermit and the gang will take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster eventually, there will still be a stretch of time without The Muppets in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. All Disney has alluded to as far as a closing timeline for the roller coaster is that guests will have plenty of time to experience it before the current iteration takes a bow. It is presumed that the closure would take place after that of MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo.
Disney has previously shared that this will be the first Disney ride to ever feature The Muppets. In today’s announcement, it was also revealed that the experience will feature “new tunes” and guests will find “plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise” on Sunset Boulevard, taking over the current footprint of Rock Around the Shop.
Despite calls to make the attraction a heritage site, Disney will shutter MuppetVision 3D this summer, and until Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is under its new management, it may be a while before we have a Muppety presence once again in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Are you sad to see an end date finally tacked on to the Muppet-themed offerings at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Will you be sad to see Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster change from its current state? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
