PROVIDENCE — Rhode Islanders around the state will mark Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day this weekend with parades, fairs, music, and plenty of festivities.
The annual Columbus Day Festival on Federal Hill in Providence returns beginning on Friday evening, bringing more than 80 food, art, and retail vendors, and games, rides, and live entertainment back to the city’s historic neighborhood, from Dean Street to Sutton Street along Atwells Avenue.
The opening ceremony is slated for noon Saturday at DePasquale Square, and a parade will step down Atwells Avenue on Sunday, with kick-off at 11 a.m. Festivities wrap up on Monday.

PRONK’S INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ DAY CELEBRATION
The Providence Honk Fest, or Pronk!, is bringing its unique blend of activism, art and music back to the city, continuing a tradition that dates back to 2007.
The free festival has several events and workshops in store between now and Oct. 17, including its “Indigenous People’s Day Celebration” at The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center lawn at 325 Public St. in Providence on Sunday.
Between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., attendees can expect to take in yoga and a Djembe drum workshop in the morning, followed by afternoon full of nearly a dozen live performances.

WESTERLY/PAWCATUCK COLUMBUS DAY PARADE
Spectators can take in what’s billed as the “only known two-state parade in the country” when the Columbus Day Parade kicks off in Westerly on Sunday and swoops across the state line into Stonington, Conn.
The celebration of Italian heritage begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at 23 Ward Ave. in Westerly. The parade moves west down Granite Street and around the north side of Wilcox Park, then heads north on Canal Street and traverses the Pawcatuck River, before looping south on Stillman Avenue and Liberty Street to Westerly Town Hall on Broad Street, a map shows.
A rain date is set for Monday at 1 p.m.
