NEW ORLEANS, L.A. (WIS) – Thousands of football fans decorated New Orleans on Sunday to see one of the biggest events in the country.
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles faced each other for the Super Bowl.
Aside from the Eagles winning the matchup 40-22, many things happened that will be talked about for a while and if you missed out, here is our list:
1. R&B singer Ledisi sings “Lift Every Voice and Sing while dressed by Midlands designer
A heart-stopping performance had a unique connection to the Midlands. Before the matchup, Ledisioddly performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” alongside 125 high school students from New Orleans.

She performed the song in an all-white dress which originated from 831MINHLE, a Lexington boutique owned by designer Minh Le. You can read more about this designer here.
2. Kendrick Lamar performs during halftime with interesting jeans.
The Grammy-award-winning rapper’s performance was well talked about. Aside from his performance and special guests, Kendrick Lamar’s bell bottoms seemed to steal the show.

According to Elle, the rapper’s fashion choice, styled by designer Taylor McNeill, consisted of a pair of Nike Air DT Maz ’96s, a $68,000 Rahaminov brooch and bootcut jeans. The jeans went viral.
The magazine said users called his halftime shot the “best ad for jeans I’ve seen in a while.”
3. Taylor Swift gets booed
Swift’s romance with the Chief’s Travis Kelce, was oddly not what people focused on during the big game. She got booed by Eagle supporters during the game.

According to the Associated Press, NFL fans have turned their backs on the singer because they believe she gets far too much television time during NFL games.
4. Former Gamecock A’ ja Wilson appears in Superbowl commercial
Many popular women athletes appeared in a Nike commercial during the Super Bowl.
The commercial featured Caitlin Clark, Sha’Carri Richardson and Columbia’s very own A’ja Wilson.
5. Dawn Staley shows support for Eagles
In addition to her beloved Gamecocks, University of South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley, who is originally from Philadelphia, is a devoted Eagles fan.
Staley appeared in a video showing love to the team while dancing in a massive Eagles hat.

6. Special guests during halftime performance
Kendrick Lamar’s halftime performance was filled with many notable moments. The show opened with actor Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam to introduce the rapper.
Kendrick also brought to the stage with him singer SZA where she sang “Luther” and “All the Stars,” alongside the rapper.

Tennis superstar Serena Williams and producer Mustard appeared on the show, while Williams danced to Lamar’s “They Not Like Us.”
7. Halftime show backup dancer faces charges after showing flag with “Sudan” and “Gaza” written on it
A man who was part of the 400-member field cast in the halftime show was taken off the field after showing a flad with “Sudan” and “Gaza” written on it.

According to the Associated Press, the New Orleans Police Department said in a statement that “law enforcement is working to determine applicable charges in this incident.”
NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said “The individual will (be) banned for life from all NFL stadiums and events.”
8. South Carolina lawmakers were at the Superbowl alongside President Donald Trump
President Donald Trump was one of many who attended the Super Bowl, making him the first sitting president in history to attend one.
Trump came to the game with several other politicians and a few members of his family.
The 45th and 47th president flew from Florida to New Orleans, according to the Associated Press, and met with participants in the honorary coin toss at the Superdome.

Senator Lindsey Graham was with Trump during the game and posted a photo of him and the president on X.

Longtime Trump supporter and SC senator Tim Scott was also at the Super Bowl.
9. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts wins Superbowl MVP
After the Eagles’ big win, their quarterback Jalen Hurts won the Super Bowl MVP honors.

The award is presented every year to the most valuable player of the Super Bowl. The winner is chosen by a panel of 16 football writers, broadcasters and the electronic votes of fans.
This was Hurts’ first time winning the award.
10. Poll finds record number of Americans plan to miss work on Monday following Eagles’ win
According to CNN, a record-breaking number of Americans were planning to take off work the day after the Super Bowl.
The data comes from a new Harris Poll which found that more than 22.5 million people across the United States planned to miss work on Monday.
The poll also found that nearly 13 million workers will go to work but arrive late. What did you do?
