It has been over 30 years since the Tejano singer passed away, but her spirit is kept alive in Dallas. For the past 11 years, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center has put on 214 Selena. It is a three-day festival that celebrates the legacy, music and spirit of Selena Quintanilla.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, March 19, with live performances, lotería and prizes. All the fun takes place at Olmo Market from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is free.
Friday, March 20, will feature a special screening of the 1997 biographical drama Selena at the iconic Texas Theatre at 8 p.m. After the movie, there will be sets by Principe Q. The concert is free and is only for attendees 21 and up.
The big celebration on Saturday, March 21, is from 1 to 6 p.m., at the 214 Selena market. There will be a Selena look-alike contest, artists, lowriders, music by DJ Amaris and Principe Q, plus local vendors.
The vendors that will be featured at the market include Hacienda Hat Co, Te Pica candy, Top Ten and more. Attendees are encouraged to wear their best Selena-inspired fits and celebrate a cultural icon and the community that continues to keep her memory alive.
Details: March 19-21 at multiple places around Oak Cliff. All events are free except for the movie screening.
