CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – It’s the most wonderful time of the year and, as holiday celebrations hit their stride, festive events are popping up throughout the Lowcountry.
With the number of groups, municipalities and organizations set to spend the coming weeks making way for the man with the bag, it can be easy to lose track of the best ways to get into the spirit of the season with family and friends.
To combat this, below is a list of Christmas tree lightings, holiday parades and festivals happening in the Lowcountry, organized by day and start time.
Friday, 12/6
The City of Charleston and the Charleston Parks Conservancy will be hosting the ninth annual Light the Lake event. This free to attend event will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Colonial Lake which is located on Broad Street. Officials say hundreds of luminaries will surround the lake and there will be food trucks and activation zones at the lake’s corners. Mayor William Cogswell will light the lake at 6 p.m.
The Hanahan Christmas Tree Lighting and Holiday Market, another free to attend event, will be held from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hanahan Amphitheater (3100 Amphitheater Avenue) and will have several children’s activities. These include pony rides, train rides and, of course, pictures with Santa Claus himself! There will be food trucks and performances by local talent, such as school choirs, bands and dance studios. The Christmas Tree will be lit at 6 p.m.
For the first day of Winterfest Celebration, the Town of Hollywood will be holding a bonfire from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Sapp Park. That address is 7561 Highway 164.
The City of Goose Creek will hold its Christmas in the Creek event from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Goose Creek Municipal Center. This will feature holiday festivities like hayrides, crafts, marshmallow roasting, pictures with Santa and more. The tree lighting itself will take place at 6 p.m. but the Lakeside Light Display will stay up all month long.
The City of North Charleston has invited everyone to come see Mayor Reggie Burgess light the City’s 40 feet tall Christmas tree. From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. there will be live music, free hot chocolate and light displays to view once the tree has been lit. This event will take place on the Park Circle Community Building grounds at 4800 Park Circle and is entirely free.
The City of Beaufort will kick off its annual holiday tradition of Night on the Town from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as the City’s historic downtown will be transformed into a celebratory winter marketplace. There will be merchants, food, activity booths and more. Christmas music, caroling, band performances by the Parris Island Marine Corps, photo ops with Santa, a movie showing, a reading of The Night Before Christmas and a tree lighting complete with snow.
This is a developing story, and Live 5 News will continue to add events to it. Check back soon for updates.
