PATCHOGUE, NY — The next generation of legendary rockers are coming to Long Island. “Sons of Cream” will perform on Feb. 16 at the Patchogue Theater.
Like father, like son as Kofi Baker will be on drums playing tribute to his famous dad Ginger Baker. “It was fun growing up in that kind of childhood thing,” Baker told Patch.
The elder Baker died in 2019, just as he and Kofi had reconciled after several years of silence. Putting the show together was important to keep the music of Cream alive and preserve the legacy of Baker, bassist Jack Bruce and guitarist Eric Clapton.
“Every show is completely different every night, [with] a lot of improvisation, exactly what Cream did,” he said. Early on, Ginger Baker gave his son one piece of career advice: “Don’t get into the music business. He wanted me to play polo,” he recalled.
Baker is excited to bring his version of his dad’s music but hopes the weather will hold. “If you’re going to book a winter tour in America, you’ve got to stay south,” Baker laughed.
