Avengers: Doomsday May Be 11 Months Away, But Don’t Wait Any Longer To Start A Marvel Movie Rewatch

Even after Marvel Studios started the marketing campaign, it’d be understandable to feel like Avengers: Doomsday is still a long way away. It’s not out until December 18 after all. That is basically a full year from now, leaving us with what seems like plenty of time to prepare for Doomsday and watch all four trailers.
One of the most popular trends ahead of a new Avengers movie or some other Marvel Cinematic Universe event film is rewatches of the entire series or at least key titles. While Avengers: Secret Wars may be more of a definitive end to an era of Marvel moviemaking, that conclusion begins with Doomsday.
For that reason, a Marvel movie rewatch is something you may want to do. And because of the returns of classic X-Men stars, some non-Marvel Studios movies must be included in any viewing schedule. If you want to watch all the relevant Marvel movies again (or for the first time) ahead of Doomsday, you really need to start now.
Watching At Least One Marvel Movie A Week From Right Now Will Help You Finish Before Avengers: Doomsday’s Release
For as far away as December 18 seems, that’s only 49 weeks from now. Yet, there are more movies than that to revisit ahead of Doomsday.
While everyone can make their own rewatch list and exclude certain titles that could be less consequential to Doomsday, a completionist approach leaves one with the pressure to watch at least one Marvel movie per week, starting right now.
Marvel Studios has made 37 movies as of today, and there will be a 38th MCU film (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) released in the lead-up to Doom’s arrival. Rewatching MCU movies strictly gives one some more wiggle room, as you’ll not need to start until late March on a one movie per week schedule.
But, there are at least four X-Men movies that should absolutely be added to the watchlist: X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Those are the movies that prominently feature returning cast members Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer.
That increases the number of Marvel movies to watch to 42, and I can even argue for another five being added. Hugh Jackman’s trilogy of Wolverine solo films are worth seeing, especially considering Logan’s importance to Deadpool & Wolverine. Speaking of Deadpool, revisiting Ryan Reynolds’ first two solo movies would make sense, too.
That’s 47 movies right there, and that’s without adding in other arguably relevant films. Should Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man appear in Doomsday, not including his Spider-Man trilogy would be a missed opportunity. And even if he isn’t in the event film, he was in Spider-Man: No Way Home. For that reason, one could even make a case for Andrew Garfield’s two The Amazing Spider-Man films.
This brings the total to 52 Marvel movies that should be seen, putting us over the one movie per week schedule.
And if you want to revisit everything that in some way connects to Doomsday or the movies leading up to it, Wesley Snipes’ Blade trilogy, the Fantastic Four movies Chris Evans was in, Daredevil and Elektra for Jennifer Garner’s assassin, and even the other three X-Men prequel movies could be included – bringing the total to 62 Marvel films.
