Leyden Township presents ‘In the Heights’
More than 80 students from both campuses in Leyden High School District 212 have joined forces behind and in front of the curtain to present “In the Heights” next month.
Leyden Fine Arts’ show will be performed at 7 p.m. March 5-7 and at 2 p.m. March 7 in West Leyden auditorium, 1000 Wolf Road in Northlake.
The musical about a close-knit Latino community follows the story of a bodega owner who wants to win the lottery to return to the Dominican Republic and restore his father’s business, as well as the dreams of others who live there.

Caricatures drawn at Cheney Mansion
The Oak Park Area Arts Council offers A couple of Caricatures from 2 to 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at Cheney Mansion, 2200 N. Euclid Ave. in Oak Park.
Registration, which costs $95 per family, includes two portraits of up to six people. Individuals can register for $25, and couples can register for $40. Additional portraits are available for $5 each.
Meeting local artists and eating refreshments are part of the event as well. A portion of proceeds benefits the council. Register by calling 708-725-2500.
Original musical spoof benefits The Community House
The Community House Players will perform “The Real Trophy Housewives of Hinsdale” at 6:45 p.m. March 6, 7, 13 and 14 at The Community House, 415 W. 8th St. in Hinsdale.
This new, original musical spoof is performed by neighbors and friends, not professional actors, and the event is the biggest fundraiser The Community House, a nonprofit organization. Seating is limited to 250 per show.

Association offers musical ride to ‘70s and ‘80s
The Nineteenth Century Charitable Association’s Monday Enrichment Series presents “Rewind to the ‘70s and ‘80s, at 1:15 p.m. March 2 in the second-floor ballroom at 78 Forest Ave. in Oak Park.
The performance features the music of Billy Joel, Fleetwood Mac, Carole King and disco tunes. Nicholas Druzbanski, Lawrence Kohut, Christine Mild, Alex Newkirk and Steve Roberts will perform.
The program is free and open to the public although a suggested donation is $15. Lunch will be served at noon before the program; cost for the three-course meal is $25 for members and guests and $30 for others. Lunch reservations are required. Darien Garden Club plans luncheon
As part of its 25th anniversary, the Darien Garden Club presents Spring Gardening Inspiration from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 7 at Chuck’s Southern Comforts Chateau Orleans, 8025 S. Cass Ave. in Darien.
The lineup of speakers includes author Teresa Woodard, whose talk is “Garden to the Max”; Suzy Lyttle, Will County Forest Preserve naturalist, who will speak on “Welcoming Wildlife”; and professional landscape architect Amanda Arnold, whose talk is “Taming the Wild: Finding the Balance of Designed Native Gardens.”
The event includes lunch, raffled gift baskets and local nonprofit organizations. Tickets, which cost $76.54, can be bought online at dariengardenclub.com/-spring-gardening-inspiration.
