Tim Burton is bringing in a ringer to play Aunt Ophelia. Eva Green — who has starred in Burton’s Dark Shadows and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children — is joining Wednesday season three as Morticia Addams’s long-lost sister, Ophelia Frump. “I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia,” Green told Netflix’s Tudum. “This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world. I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”
Aunt Ophelia has existed in most of the Addams Family media. She first appeared in the comics series as a blonde woman who seems to be wearing a flower crown. Turns out flowers grow out of her head. On the ’60s TV show, Ophelia was engaged to Gomez Addams until he heard Morticia speak French, and he instantly fell in love (and his asthma was somehow cured by horniness, which is an added bonus). Ophelia wasn’t bothered by the outcome, though. She had already fallen for Cousin Itt.
