Crews continue to work on various façades in the former Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as the space is transformed into Monstropolis.
Monstropolis Construction
More of the façade was stripped from the fake firehouse beyond PizzeRizzo, exposing the metal studs and framing. Crew members were working in a lift at the top of the building during our recent visit. There is now scaffolding in front of the building, too.
Though the firehouse was just a façade and served no functional purpose for guests, it was part of the larger building that housed “It’s a Wonderful Shop.” Once a year-round Christmas store, “It’s a Wonderful Shop” never reopened following the park’s COVID-19 closure and only operated as a seasonal meet and greet location for its final years. Fake snow and trim was removed from the building.
Another façade between “It’s a Wonderful Shop” and the former Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is covered by a clear tarp. A decorative element near the top of Mama Melrose’s and a decorative fire escape were also removed from the building. It will be transformed into Harryhausen’s, the restaurant from Monsters, Inc.
We also saw crew members continuing work on the façade of the land’s restrooms building, formerly Gonzo’s Royal Flush. It looks like more brickwork has been stripped from between the faux windows.
