Actor Mickey Rourke has lost his Los Angeles home after failing to respond to an eviction lawsuit, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The Los Angeles County Superior Court entered a default judgment in favor of landlord Eric T. Goldie, granting him possession of the property. The 73-year-old actor did not respond to the complaint or appear in court for the eviction case.
The court order focused on returning control of the home to the landlord and was for possession only, not financial damages.
The eviction comes following a December notice demanding Rourke pay $59,100 in back rent or vacate the property within three days.
Rejects crowdfunding effort
During the move, a GoFundMe campaign was established by Liya-Joelle Jones, who identified herself as an assistant to Rourke’s manager, Kimberly Hines. The fundraiser sparked confusion and an angry rebuke from Rourke.
In a Jan. 5 Instagram video, Rourke said he was “frustrated,” “confused” and had no knowledge of the campaign.
“That’s not me, okay?” Rourke said. “I’d rather, if I needed money, I wouldn’t ask for no f—— charity. I’d rather stick a gun up my a– and pull the trigger.”
He added, “I wouldn’t know what a GoFundMe foundation is in a million years. My life is very simple; I wouldn’t go to outside sources like that.”
But Hines told The Hollywood Reporter that Rourke had initially agreed to accept help. “We said, ‘Mickey, there’s some people that want to help you out.’ He’s like, ‘OK, great.’ I don’t think he understood, and now it’s taken on this media frenzy, and he flipped out.”
Rourke has since been living in a hotel in West Hollywood and has urged donors to reclaim their money from the GoFundMe campaign, according to PEOPLE.
