Jason Momoa’s new action comedy has found one of its leads in a DCEU villain actor.
Momoa’s first foray into the world of DC Comics came in 2018 with the release of Aquaman, which was a massive hit. Though his time as the aquatic DCEU hero is over, Momoa is poised to enter James Gunn and Peter Safran’s revamped DCU as Lobo in this summer’s Supergirl. Now, he has another new project on the horizon.
Per Deadline, Momoa will star opposite Andy Samberg in an upcoming action comedy from Netflix called Protecting Jared, which is now in production in Oahu, Hawaii. Jai Courtney, who played Boomerang in both 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2021’s The Suicide Squad, will costar, along with Aimee Carrero. The film has also landed a director, with Reuben Fleischer (Now You See Me: Now You Don’t) having come aboard.
The Protecting Jared script hails from screenwriters Rob Klein and John Solomon, a multiple Emmy-nominated duo who worked for 16 years together on Saturday Night Live. Though no plot or character details have been released just yet, the film will be set in Hawaii. Momoa is producing the film through his company, On the Roam, with Samberg producing through Party Over Here.
For Momoa, Protecting Jared’s production comes on the heels of the release of The Wrecking Crew (2026), a Prime Video action comedy in which he starred opposite Dave Bautista. This film, which earned generally positive reviews from critics, was also primarily filmed and set in Hawaii.
This summer, Momoa will make his debut as Lobo in Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl starring Milly Alcock. It’s also long been rumored that Momoa could also one day get his own solo film as the DC antihero.
Samberg, on the other hand, was most recently seen in The Roses (2025), Good Burger 2 (2023), and Lee (2023). Courtney recently featured in Netflix’s War Machine (2026) starring Alan Ritchson, and he also made a splash in shark horror movie Dangerous Animals (2025). Carrero, meanwhile, may be familiar to viewers for her role in Apple TV’s Your Friends and Neighbors.
