(Gray News) – Kid Rock’s performance at the Turning Point USA “All-American Halftime Show” is under scrutiny after video of the event seems to show him lip-syncing to his music.
Kid Rock performed at the counterprogrammed Super Bowl halftime show alongside country artists Brantley Gilbert, Lee Brice and Gabby Barrett.
The program intended to provide an alternative concert to the actual halftime show, which headlined Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny and featured guest performances from Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
Kid Rock, wearing a black t-shirt and shorts, opened his two-song set with “Bawitdaba.” The performance has drawn controversy due to Kid Rock’s apparent usage of a backtrack featuring vocals, while not seem to sing any of the lyrics himself.
Following an extended performance from a string duo, Rock again took the stage with a costume change and after being introduced as Robert Ritchie. This time, he performed a cover of “Til You Can’t” by Cody Johnson.
Turning Point USA’s halftime show failed to obtain licensing to stream on X and numerous other platforms.
The live stream peaked at more than 6 million concurrent viewers.
Preliminary estimates suggest the number of Super Bowl viewers was more than 135 million.
