Latin music star Bad Bunny is facing legal action after using an unauthorized voice recording on a song for the second time.
The sample appears on the songs “Solo de Mi” and “EoO”, where a recording of a woman’s voice says, “Mira, puñeta, no me quiten el perreo”, roughly translating to “[Expletive], don’t take away my perreo!”. “Perreo” refers to reggaeton dancing. The lyric has since become a meme, appearing on merchandise and across various marketing materials linked to Bad Bunny’s career.
The woman featured in the recording is Tainaly Y. Serrano Rivera, who claims that she never signed a contract allowing the use of the lines for commercial purposes. Rivera and Bad Bunny’s producer, Roberta Rosado, were theater students together at the Interamerican University of Arecibo. This is where she claims the recording was taken from her.
The lawsuit will attempt to secure $16 million for privacy violation and publicity rights. While it may appear to be a simple production oversight, this isn’t the first time that the latin star has been sued for intellectual property infringements.
In 2023, Carliz de la Cruz Hernández, Bad Bunny’s ex-girlfriend, took legal action against him for using her voice without consent in the songs “Pa Ti” and “Dos Mil 16”, seeking a $40 million settlement. She argued that the recordings brought her unwanted attention, as they were recorded in 2015, long before Bad Bunny’s super stardom took off.
As of Sunday, Bad Bunny’s team has yet to respond to requests for comment.
