Michael Fassbender is one of the most revered actors of his generation, and yet, the last decade of his career has been plagued with inconsistency. On the one hand, the actor has played roles in award-winning, beloved films such as Frank and The Killer, both of which had Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores. In this era, he also continued to play Magneto in the X-Men series. This included 2014’s well-reviewed installment X-Men: Days of Future Past.
On the other hand, however, Fassbender’s career has reached some epic lows in the past ten years. The most notorious of Fassbender’s late 2010s work was The Snowman, a box office bomb that received a dismal rating of just 7% among critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Even the last five years have crafted a similar tale of Fassbender’s box office insecurity. 2019 saw a rotten score with Dark Phoenix, which was recovered by The Killer, only to see his Rotten Tomatoes score plummet again with Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins. Fassbender has another opportunity to recover his reputation this year.

Fassbender’s Rotten Tomatoes Inconsistency Continues

While The Agency’s Rotten Tomatoes Score is improving, the movie is just still barely holding on to its freshness on the critics’ aggregate website. As such, the spy show serves an interesting place within Fassbender’s career. The actor is much more prominent in movies than on TV, making The Agency a critical determinant as to whether the actor can easily pivot. As of now, he has not done enough to become a mainstay on television as he continues his unstable Rotten Tomatoes trend.
