Pophouse Entertainment has acquired the rights to Tina Turner’s name, image and likeness, along with a majority share of her music catalog from BMG, the Swedish entertainment company announced Thursday.
According to the Associated Press, the deal gives Pophouse control over the legacy of the late music icon, who died in 2023 at age 83.
BMG will retain a percentage of Turner’s catalog and confirmed the singer’s estate participated in discussions but was not a direct negotiating party. Talks between the companies began after Turner’s death.
Turner, known as the “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll” built a celebrated career that included hits like “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “The Best” and “Proud Mary.”
She sold more than 150 million records, won 12 Grammy Awards and earned two inductions into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
BMG emphasized its commitment to preserving Turner’s artistic vision.
“Our responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career,” Alistair Norbury, president of BMG UK, Continental Europe and APAC, said.
Pophouse Entertainment, which was co-founded by Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA, specializes in digital avatar productions. The company operates the “ABBA Voyage” show in London.
Pophouse recently acquired the entire catalog and intellectual property of KISS in a deal estimated at over $300 million. The company partnered with the glam rock heroes to create digital avatars for future performances using technology developed by George Lucas’ special-effects company, Industrial Light and Magic.
