Respawn Entertainment, the developer of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor for consoles and PC, has announced that it was canceling two projects that were in early development. In doing so, the studio stated that it was refocusing its efforts away from the canceled projects towards development of the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as well as new content for Apex Legends. By doing this, a number of employees have been moved around to other projects.
News of the cancellations comes from a post by Respawn Entertainment in an announcement on their X account shared on April 29th. The company posted an image with a long statement that detailed why the two unannounced projects were canceled and what next steps the studio was taking afterwards. “As we sharpen our focus for the future, we’ve made the decision to step away from two early-stage incubation projects and make some targeted adjustments across Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.”
Related A Star Wars game was just announced, and it’s turn-based EA revealed a new Star Wars game called Zero Company and it has an interesting hook.
While the statement from Respawn Entertainment does not detail exactly what projects were canceled, multiple reports shared online have given some ideas as to what they were.
As reported by Inside Gaming, one project was said to have been a multiplayer first-person shooter that was actually canceled back in March 2025. Specific details about the project were not known at the time, but its cancellation came months after another project for Respawn Entertainment was also canceled, a rumored Star Wars Mandalorian-related game that was also a first-person shooter.
The other project from this most recent announcement is still unknown. Nothing in the statement from Respawn indicates what that project was, or if there was any connection to the second game that the studio was moving away from.
But in the wake of these two games being shelved, Respawn Entertainment is now shifting resources towards delivering better experiences to players who love Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. The studio explained that the team will continue to refine the gameplay and implement new ideas in upcoming seasons of their shooter.
For the next chapter of Star Wars Jedi, Respawn expressed a similar enthusiasm. “Within the Star Wars universe, we’re excited to keep building stories – with the next chapter of the Star Wars Jedi series aiming to raise the bar again for storytelling and gameplay.”

Despite the optimism from Respawn about their future projects, news of the two projects being canceled has also affected a lot of people at the studio. According to sources within Respawn, as reported by IGN, around 100 people had their jobs affected, though an exact number isn’t known. This includes personnel from development, publishing, and QA workers for Apex Legends as well as smaller teams for Star Wars Jedi.
While a number of affected employees are being given a 30-day period to find new opportunities, not everybody may be able to do so. A statement given to IGN by Electronic Arts assured it was trying hard to find as many roles for as many people as possible. This isn’t the first time Electronic Arts has been affected by layoffs, as the company eliminated jobs back in 2023 from BioWare, Codemasters, and more. It was reported at the time by multiple sources that Electronic Arts had laid off over 600 employees.
In the meantime, Respawn Entertainment still has other projects in the works. During Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan, the studio officially revealed Star Wars: Zero Company, a tactical game set during the Cone Wars era for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2026.
Respawn Entertainment will lend support to the game’s developer Bit Reactor, while also continuing work on the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as well as more content for new seasons of Apex Legends.
